Provincetown Community Compact, The Compact, sponsors the annual Swim For Life & Paddler Flotilla benefit (Sept 8, 2018) that has raised $5M for AIDS, women’s health & the community since 1988. The Compact, established in 1993 by Jay Critchley, is a community-building and philanthropic organization that nurtures the vitality of the community, connecting the environment, the arts and the economy.
Its mission is to advance the health and cultural well being of the town, its people, and the natural environment of the Lower Cape. It also acts as fiscal sponsor (Think-ubator Project) for social, environmental and artistic projects and manages two Dune Shack residencies.
It’s Prayer Ribbons initiative, begun at the Swim for Life, which has collected 3,000 colored ribbons with messages honoring both those who have died and those living, was invited again to Orlando, Florida for the second anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre on June 12, 2018. A special strand of ribbons that includes black ribbons with the names of the victims inscribed in gold (plus one for those injured) will be displayed at the commemoration,
